ASU-Newport Names Charles Walker Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration

NEWPORT, Ark. — Arkansas State University-Newport has named Charles Walker as its next vice chancellor for finance and administration, effective June 1.

Walker brings more than 20 years of leadership experience across higher education, healthcare and manufacturing, with expertise in finance, administration, operations, workforce strategy and human resources.

“Charles is an invaluable asset to ASU-Newport and was a stellar candidate for this position,” Interim Chancellor Ike Wheeler said. “He brings a people-centered leadership style, a strong commitment to fiscal stewardship and a vision for transparency and inclusivity that aligns with the future of fiscal affairs operations at ASU-Newport.”

In his current role, Walker oversees more than $1.1 million in grant-funded initiatives, develops sustainable revenue models and strengthens employer partnerships designed to expand workforce opportunities. During his previous service at ASU-Newport as associate vice chancellor for administration, he led departmental budgeting, procurement, facilities management and human resources operations.

Walker has also held senior leadership positions in healthcare and manufacturing, including chief operating officer at Lawrence Healthcare, human resource director at Martin Sprocket and Gear, and production manager at Hytrol Conveyor Company. Throughout his career, he has led operational improvement efforts focused on cost containment, workforce planning, compliance and organizational growth.

In addition to his professional leadership experience, Walker served as a captain in the Arkansas Army National Guard, where he held command and staff leadership roles and received Meritorious Service recognition.

Walker earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from Arkansas State University and holds the Senior Professional in Human Resources credential.
